Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Alexandre sparks Mustangs to 4-0 win in home finale

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Estevao Alexandre missed out on a couple of chances to claim the first hat trick of his career Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

But the senior from Belo Horizonte, Brazil is more than pleased with the result as No. 1 Midwestern State tied a program record with its 14th-straight win in a 4-0 wipe out of Northeastern State.

"It was our last home game of the regular season," Alexandre said. "It was fun to score, but it's even greater to be at MSU because we are a family and we play for each other."

Alexandre scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes and had a chance at a few loose balls in the box as he could have joined Craig Sutherland and Bryan Sajjadi, who had hat tricks in MSU's 9-0 win over Missouri Southern Friday night.

Nick Auditore extended the MSU advantage to 3-0 with a goal in the 39th minutes and Sutherland added his team-leading 15th tally 48 seconds into the second half.

The Mustangs, who are now 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the Southwest Soccer Conference, can clinch its third-straight conference championship with a win at Eastern New Mexico next Friday in Portales.

Midwestern closes the regular season next Sunday against rival West Texas A&M in Canyon.

The Mustangs completed a perfect regular season at the MSU Soccer Field with an 8-0 mark. MSU has not allowed a goal on its home pitch this season and outscored the opposition 26-0.

The defense also delivered its third-straight shutout and sixth in its last seven games as the unit has allowed just one goal during that span.

"Our defense is really good," Alexandre said. "They give us a lot of confidence to play our game. The coaches like us to be perfect and we should be peaking at the right time."

Northeastern State closes the season at 3-14-1 and 2-6 in the SSC.
