Eskridge sets school record with six TD passes as MSU rolls Greyhounds, 59-16

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's sophomore quarterback Zack Eskridge stole the show on Senior Day against Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Eskridge broke a school record and tied a Lone Star Conference record with six touchdown passes – all to different receivers and the Mustangs raced past the Greyhounds 59-16.

With 10:19 to go in the game and Midwestern State with the ball on the Greyhound 3-yard line, Eskridge found tight end Sasan Faradineh in the back of the end zone for his sixth touchdown, breaking the former record set by Phillip Boggs against Northeastern State in 2002.

Eskridge also went 22-for-29 for 295 yards to go along with his half-dozen touchdown passes.

The Mustangs (6-3; 3-2 in LCS-S) keep their ounce of playoff hope alive heading in next week's game at Abilene Christian.

Eastern New Mexico (1-9; 0-5) have now lost nine in a row, despite a strong performance by quarterback JJ Harp, who completed 37 of his 70 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns in the Greyhounds' spread offense. Their rushing game, on the other hand, was shut down to –59 yards – mostly because of seven sacks by the Mustangs.

For the third straight game, Eskridge tossed three touchdown passes in the first quarter alone. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound sophomore hit Mookie Davis for a 14-yard score, Armahd Lewis for a 36-yard touchdown then found Bee Jay Mathis with less than a minute to go in the quarter for 15 yards to put the Mustangs up 21-0 after the first.

The Mustangs tacked on a 37-yard field goal by Jose Martinez early in the second quarter then the Greyhounds scored nine straight points on a 2-yard pass from Harp to Matt Handler and a 32-yard field goal by Adam Richards.

With nine seconds left to go in the half, the Mustangs forced a turnover on downs and set up on their own 42-yard line for an apparent Hail Mary play. Instead, Eskridge scrambled and found David Little down the middle, around the Greyhound 30. Little sprinted out to and down the right sideline and dove just inside the pylon for the 58-yard score, the longest pass play of the season.

The Mustangs didn't waste time pouring it on in the third quarter. On Midwestern's third play of second half, Marcus Mathis took it 56-yards down the right sideline for his fifth rushing touchdown of the year. Midway through the third, Eskridge hit tight end JJ Ford on an 8-yard score for his record-tying toss before setting it the following quarter.
