MSU battles to overcome Texas A&M- Kingsville 62-55

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Senior guard Stacey Staten led the Mustangs with a career high 19 points in the win over Texas A&M- Kingsville Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

With the win, MSU improves to 7-8 on the season and 1-1 in LSC play. The Javelinas drop to 5-10 and 1-1 in conference play.

 Brittni Morrison added 14 points and seven rebounds, as well as three clutch 3-pointers late in the second half. Rosy Ofoegbu finished the night with nine rebounds. To add to her career night, Staten pulled down six boards to go along with her 19 points.

Felicia Soza led TAMUK with 20 points and six boards. LaKeisha Jones added ten rebounds.

Going into halftime, the Javelinas had a 33-25 lead, but the Mustangs would come back in the second half with more intesity and desire.

After being down by as many as 13 in the second half, MSU slowly began to chip away at the Javelinas lead.

A steal by Brandy Moore and a 3-pointer by Morrison with 3:10 left to go in the game would give the Mustangs their first lead since the 12:15 mark in the first half. Midwestern would score six unanswered points to finish the ballgame.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Canyon, Texas to take on West Texas A&M. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
