DURANT, Okla. - Rosy Ofoegbu missed a triple-double by a pair of assists, but it wasn't enought to save Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at Bloomer Sullivan Gym as Southeastern Oklahoma State came away with a 68-64 win.
With the loss, the Mustangs close the Lone Star Conference crossover portion of their schedule with a 6-7 mark, while the Savage Storm improved to 9-6.
Midwestern State opens South Division play Wednesday night when it plays host to Tarleton State at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
Ofoegbu keyed an 13-0 first-half run by assisting each of the Mustangs' five field goals during the run as MSU had a 22-10 lead after
Brandy Moore connected on her second 3-pointer of the opening half.
Ofoegbu would end the game with 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
The Midwestern lead grew to 27-13 after Moore canned another trey and Ofoegbu used an effective step-through move at the 10:57 mark.
But the Savage Storm responded with a 14-0 run as sophomore guard Kacey Russell scored nine of her team-high 19 points in a four-minute stretch as the teams battled to a 29-29 tie with 4:26 remaining in the first half.
Ofoegbu continued her playmaking in the second half as she had a hand in ech of the Mustangs' first eight points after intermission as MSU would lead 43-36 after a pair of
Brittni Morrison free throws with 13:20 to go.
The Savage Storm outscored Midwestern 14-2 over a five-minute stretch late in the game as their lead would bulge to 58-50 after Trista Shomo canned two free throws with 4:06 to go.
Moore paced Midwestern State with a game-high 24 points, while
Kaylon Hodge and
Stacey Staten had nine points each.
Russell paced the Savage Storm with 19 points, while Ashley Tucker had 15 points and Jessica Hocker scored 11.
