WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State pulled together Thursday night as they defeated the Incarnate Word Cardinals 30-17, 30-26, 30-16 in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Junior
Shay Velasquez started the action with her vigorous defensive play leading the Mustangs with 21 digs followed by
Allison Schreiber with 37 out of a total 45 assists.
As the game continued on MSU incorporated six blocks into their defensive strategy. Leading blockers were
Whitney Maxwell and
Sesley Graves who had three each.
Mustangs offensive play consisted of 49 total kills led by
Krissa Johnson's 11 kills followed by
Alysha Pritt with nine, while Maxwell had seven. Schreiber and Graves added six apiece.
The win was the fifth consecutive win for the Mustangs as they improved to a record of 7-2, while Incarnate Word fell to 4-6.
MSU looks to continue their astounding play Friday when they are back in action at the Texas Women's Tournament in Denton, Texas. The Mustangs open with Dallas Baptist at 1:30 p.m. and battle Arkansas Tech at 6:30 p.m.
