No. 12 Mustangs blast Texas-Permian Basin, 7-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's Daniel Brown and Robert Swann scored two goals each to lead a 7-0 ambushing of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Wednesday night at the MSU Soccer Field.

The Mustangs won their sixth-straight match to improve to 9-1 on the season and will now enjoy a nine-day layoff before traveling to Golden, Colo. for a pair of crucial Midwest Region tilts.

MSU will face Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference powers Fort Lewis (Colo.) and Colorado School of Mines on Oct. 5 and 7 in Golden, Colo.

Brown opened the scoring for the Mustangs with his 10th goal of the season. The senior forward from Flower Mound, Texas found the open net when Obed Becerra's shot rebounded off of Texas-Permian Basin goalkeeper Gage Peterson in the game's sixth minute.

Brown added his second goal in the 25th minute when Peterson came out of the box to clear a through ball, but mishandled it allowing Brown to dribble the ball to the goal line.

Swann added a pair of goals after intermission as the junior defender from Sunderland, England scored on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute and redirected Matt Nauman's free kick from the top of the box in the 75th minute to close out scoring.

Becerra notched his first goal of the season in the 11th minute, while Rob Humphrey scored his third goal of the year in the 50th minute and Efren Castillo added a tally in the 74th.

The Mustangs outshot the Falcons 34-5, while goalkeepers Jeremy Turner and Shawn Carr combined for MSU's seventh shutout of the season.

Texas-Permian Basin dropped to 3-7.
