WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State blasted the ball off of the left post, off of the right post, off of the cross bar Friday night against Texas-Permian Basin at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Mustangs fired and fired away at the Falcons putting 24 of their 44 shots on goal, but could never muster a goal as Falcons' keeper Stephanie Ward recorded 23 saves to preserve a 0-0 tie.
"UTPB played smart soccer against us," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "They played within themselves, stayed back and limited our speed."
The Mustangs (2-0-1) stayed aggressive throughout the contest and maintained possession of the ball.
"I'm proud of the opportunities we generated, but we just couldn't finish them," Trimble said.
The aggression resulted in a 44-6 shot advantage by the Mustangs as Texas-Permian managed to put just three shots on goal compared to 24 for Midwestern.
MSU goalkeeper
Heather Primavera saved three saves in 110 minutes of play for her second shutout of the season and eight of her career.
"Primo made great decisions today coming off of the line," Trimble said.
The Mustangs travel to Edmond, Okla. next weekend to take on Newman (Kan.) on Friday and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on Saturday at the Central Oklahoma Soccer Field.
Texas-Permian Basin is now 1-1-1 on the season. Â
