PENSACOLA, Fla. - Midwestern State junior
Allison Schreiber paced the Mustangs with 41 assists and added 16 digs, but it was the steady play of
Whitney Maxwell that helped the Mustangs to a 3-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) Friday afternoon to improve to 2-0 at the Comfort Inn-vitational.
"Their pace was really slow," MSU coach
Venera Flores-Stafford said. "Instead of playing our match, we played their's and to come from behind in each of the first two games."
The Mustangs sweated out 32-30 and 33-31 wins in the opening games before stepping up the pace to finish the Cardinals 30-16 in the third game.
Maxwell registered a .421 attack percentage with nine kills and added five set assists.
"She had a really good match after coming on against West Georgia," Flores-Stafford said. "She really came out and had a clean match."
Midwestern's front line registered 17 blocks led by sophomore
Sesley Graves, who had a pair of solo blocks to go along with seven block assists. Sophomore
Alysha Pritt added six blocks, while Maxwell was in on four.
