IRVING, Texas -- The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs continued its run through the Lone Star Conference Championships.
This time, the Mustangs knocked off No. 4 Angelo State, 7-3. With the win, MSU advances to the championship game of the LSC tournament.
ASU (46-9), the number one seed from the LSC South Division, started the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two run single from Macy Baker. ASU then added another run in the bottom of the fourth, on a single to right field that scored pinch runner Vanessa Rodriguez, to make the game 3-0 Rambelles. MSU (42-14) then opened the game up, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Mustangs
Amanda Hill started the scoring, as she hit a two run single to left field to make the score 3-2 ASU. MSU then added two more runs on two out singles by
Cheyanne Paschal, which scored
Kelli Shaw, and
Maranda Bishop, which scored Anne Smith. Midwestern then added three more runs in the top of the seventh to ice the victory for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs picked up big games at the plate from
Maranda Bishop (2-4, 3 RBIs),
Cheyanne Paschal (1-4, 1 RBI),
Jessica Rodriguez (1-4, double, 1 RBI), and
Amanda Hill (1-1, 2 RBIs).
MSU picked up another solid game off the mound from
Katie Petersen, as she allowed three runs on just eight hits and struck out three batters, while picking up win number 25 on the season.
Midwestern will now face Central Oklahoma in the LSC Finals. The Championship game is set to start at 4:45 p.m. at Southwest Park.
