IRVING, Texas -- The Midwestern State University softball team continued its run through the Lone Star Conference Tournament, this time knocking off Central Oklahoma, 10-0 in five innings.
MSU (41-14), the number one seed from the LSC North Division, started the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two run double of
Lindsey Voigt. The Mustangs then scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning, capped off by a three-run homerun blast to left field by
Tara Staten. MSU then added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to finish the game off.
Midwestern picked up big games at the plate from
Maranda Bishop (2-3, 2 RBIs),
Kristen Stonecipher (1-1, 2 RBI),
Lindsey Voigt (2-3, double, 2 RBIs),
Kelli Shaw (2-3, double, 2 RBIs), and
Tara Staten (1-3, three run homerun).
MSU also received great games off the mound from
Katie Petersen and
Ashley Kuchenski. Petersen, started the game, and went four innings allowing just three hits and striking out three batters, while picking up win number 24 on the season. Kuchenski, who came into the game in the top of the fifth, allowed no hits and struck out one to finish the game for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State will now face the one seed from the South, number four nationally Angelo State, who knocked off Northeastern State 7-0. The MSU-ASU game will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday from Irving's Southwest Park.
