ABILENE, Texas – The Midwestern State University women tennis season came to an end Friday afternoon in the NCAA Division II Central 2 Regional Championship match as the host Abilene Christian University claimed a 5-0 sweep over the Mustangs.
MSU, ranked 37th nationally and seeded sixth in the Central region, ended the year at 15-10. No. 12 ACU, the second seed in the region, upped its record to 23-5 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships next week in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
ACU swept Midwestern in all three doubles matches, as Irene Squillaci and Aina Rafolo defeated Faye d'Hamecourt and Ann-Sophie Indeherberge 8-2 at No. 1. Holly Lindoff and Lana Pavlin beat
Cilia Muller and
Collean Kinser 8-1 at No. 2, while Meagan Brown and Sarah Drummond downed
Melissa dos Prazeres-Silva and
Michelle Watson 8-3 at the No. 3 position.
Only two singles matches were completed with Rafolo beating Indeherberge 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Drummond downing Watson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
It was the 10th consecutive season that the MSU women advanced to NCAA Tournament play.
