TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The 13th-ranked Northeastern State University Lady Reds claimed the only five games completed to down the 26th ranked Midwestern State University Mustangs 5-0 in Lone Star Conference women's tennis action on Friday at the NSU Invitational.
Battling 30-degree weather and frigid wind, the Lady Reds claimed all five contests without dropping a set.
The Lady Reds' Simona Stoica and Amanda Stone each won both of their matches as they teamed for an 8-0 win at number one doubles over MSU's Ann Indeherberge and
Cilia Muller. Then Stoica downed Indeherberge 6-1, 6-1 and Stone beat Muller 6-0, 6-1.
MSU's
Brynne Chappell and
Collean Kinser battled Maryna Tkachenko and Emina Spirtovic before falling 8-6 at number two doubles. NSU's Romana Jovanovicova and Nina Wenner defeated MSU's Faye d'Hamecourt and
Michelle Watson 6-1.
The Mustangs are scheduled to face the other two teams in the Invitational, Arkansas Tech and Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, weather permitting.
