WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 26th-ranked Midwestern State University women picked up a win over the University of the Incarnate Word on Friday, but the 29th ranked MSU men fell to the 27th-ranked UIW men at the same time at the MSU Tennis Center.
The MSU women (16-7) claimed a 5-2 triumph over UIW (5-8) in the match that was pulled just before a severe thunderstorm hit the area.
The UIW men (5-4) edged the Mustangs (8-7) 5-3 with one match pulled prior to the storm.
The Mustangs women claimed three of the four singles matches completed, while taking the number one and two doubles.
MSU's Cilia Muller and Faye d'Hamecourt won both singles and doubles matches.
Muller beat UIW's Megan Crain 7-6, 7-5 at number one singles and teamed with Ann-Sophie Indeherberge to down Nadia Pope and Andrea Prieto 8-6 at number one doubles.
D'Hamecourt beat Prieto 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) at number three singles and teamed with Brynne Chappell to beat Sarah Carswell and Erica Engberg 8-5 at number two doubles. Collean Kinser beat UIW's Sarah Carswell 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 for Mustangs other win.
On the men's side, MSU's
Zac Dillard was a double-winner, claiming the Mustangs only singles win was at number four against Mike Hastings 6-3, 6-2. He then paired with
Or Barnea to beat Rudy Obregon and Hastings 8-4 at number three doubles.
The Mustangs also won number two doubles as
Charles van Swelm and
Fernando Villarreal beat David Knaszak and Chris Suciu 8-4.
MSU will face St. Edward's in men's and women's action Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
