WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University women's tennis team pulled off a gigantic victory at the MSU Courts on Monday, upsetting the 10th-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Drury University (Mo.) 6-3 in non-conference action.
MSU (11-3) claimed two of the three matches in doubles and four of six singles matches to win the event.
MSU was led by senior
Cilia Muller who teamed with
Brynne Chappell to win number one doubles over Thu Ha Mai and Alejandra Miranda-Sanchez 8-4, then won her own singles match at number five over Mai 6-3, 6-3. The doubles team of
Berkley Peeples and
Michelle Watson beat Megan Blosser and Evan Hankova 8-6.
MSU's
Melissa dos Prazeres-Silva claimed number six singles over Blosser 6-2, 6-1, while
Collean Kinser downed Hankova 6-2, 6-2 at number four. Faye d'Hamecourt took three sets to beat Khrystina Tryboi 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
The match was just the second at home this season for the Mustangs. Already 2-1 in the LSC, MSU hosts Abilene Christian on Wednesday. Both men and women will be in action beginning at 2:30 at the MSU Tennis Center.
