Mustang Women beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 58-44

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University Mustangs went on a 12-2 run midway through the second half to erase a seven-point deficit and go on to a 58-44 Lone Star Conference South women's victory over Texas A&M University-Kingsville Saturday night at Gerald Stockton Court in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

MSU evened its season record at 12-12 overall, 5-7 in LSC South play.  TAMUK fell to 8-17 overall, 3-9 in loop action.

The Mustangs were paced by senior Sonya Courtney-Calhoun who collected a game-high 14 points in her final contest at the Coliseum.  Junior Kaylon Hodge added 12 points, with junior Brittni Burks picking up 11 points and nine rebounds.  Senior Brandi Bush scored 10 points with two blocks in her final home contest.

The Javelina women got nine points from Angela Trotter and Dyana Bullinger.  Bullinger grabbed 11 boards, with Trotter adding nine.

The teams started slowly, only reaching double digits 12 minutes into the contest.

Texas A&M-Kingsville held a 21-17 halftime lead, then built a seven-point 34-27 advantage on a Kayla Naylor three with 12:23 to play.

That's when the Mustangs kicked it into gear.

Andrea Buben answered with a three of her own for MSU, followed by a Kaylor Hodge jumper.

After trading buckets, Hodge hit two straight shots and Bush nailed a free throw to give MSU a lead it would never relinquish.

MSU allowed TAMUK only eight points in the final six minutes, going on a 19-8 run to close the game.

MSU is off until Thursday night, when it travels to Eastern New Mexico for a 6:30 Central time game.
