EDMOND, Okla. – Kendal Kitchens deflected Adi Stein's shot past into the net to give West Texas A&M a 1-0 win over Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference Semifinals Friday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.
The Lady Buffs move into the championship game to face Central Oklahoma, a 4-3 double overtime winner over Texas A&M-Commerce in Friday's other semifinal matchup.
The championship match is set for Sunday with a 1 p.m. start time at Thompson Field.
West Texas A&M's Lisha Jungmann made six saves to stave off the Mustangs' attack as the teams managed 10 shots each.
West Texas A&M maintained possession throughout much of the match as the Lady Buffs carried a 10-2 advantage on corner kick opportunities.
The teams appeared headed to the intermission in a scoreless tie, but Stein unleashed a shot from 15 yards out that was deflected into the net by Kitchens for her seventh goal of the season.
Midwestern State, which fell to 12-4-2 on the season, came into the week ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Region Ranking and will now have to wait out selection for an invitation to its first postseason appearance.
The top six teams from each of the eight regions advance to the NCAA Division II Championships which are set to begin next weekend.
West Texas A&M (12-6-1) came into the week tied for seventh, but can draw the Lone Star Conference's automatic bid with a win on Sunday.
