ABILENE, Texas – Midwestern State advanced in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Central Region Championships with a 5-3 triumph over Incarnate Word Thursday.
MSU (14-5) had to come from behind to beat Incarnate Word (12-7).
MSU trailed UIW 2-1 after doubles play, with the lone Mustang win coming at number one with
Brenna Jackson and
Michelle Beukes defeating Giang Vu and Andrea Prieto 8-5.
But the singles were another matter, as MSU claimed four of the five decided contests, led by number three Cecilia Muller who took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Megan Crain.
Michelle Watson, Beukes and
Jessica Odorizzi also claimed singles wins.
MSU, the fourth ranked team in the region and 30th nationally, advances to face Abilene Christian (28-6) to see which team will advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in Kansas City. ACU, the region's top team and ranked sixth nationally, easily beat East Central 5-0 on Thursday.
