AUSTIN, Texas – The Midwestern State University women went into the holiday break on a happy note with a 57-49 victory over the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers in non-conference action at the SEU Recreation and Convocation Center Tuesday night.
MSU (6-4) held a seven-point first half lead, but allowed the Toppers (1-8) to cut the score to 25-23 at the half.
St. Ed's grabbed a brief lead midway through the second half and tied the game four times.
But a three-pointer from freshman

SEU closed the contest to within a point at 46-45 with 4:42 to go when MSU got a pair of free throws from
Brandi Bush, then a layup and free throw from
Kaylon Hodge 30 seconds later to seal the contest. It was part of an 11-4 run to end the game for MSU.
The Mustangs were led by senior
Sonya Calhoun-Courtney with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Buben added 12 points with six boards and Bush 10 points.
The Hilltoppers got 11 points from Tammy Bartosh, the only SEU player in double figures in scoring. Charron Sumler led all rebounders with seven boards.
MSU shot just 38 percent from the floor (21-of-56), but held the Toppers to just 30 percent (15-of-50).
