Tony Burson was named second-team Daktronics, Inc. Division II Football Team announced on Tuesday.
Burson, a 6-4, 280 pound junior from Bellville, was chosen as one of six offensive linemen on the Daktronics team selected by the sports information directors of NCAA Division II institutions.
A leader on the MSU line, Burson helped pave the way for the Mustangs to finish the regular season as the number one team in Division II in total offense with 470.1 yards a game. MSU finished the season averaging 436.5 yards a contest, and when the season ends following Saturday's national championship game, should rank third in total offense.
MSU also finished the season averaging 242.0 yards a game rushing, currently seventh in Division II and the team scored 35.8 points a game currently ranking fifth nationally.
Burson's blocking helped quarterback
Daniel Polk become MSU's first 1000-1000 man and helped Polk and running back
Ulysses Odoms both rush for over 200-yards in a game this past season.
Burson and kicker
Kristian Foster represented MSU on the national ballot after being named to the Daktronics Inc. Division II All-Southwest Region first-team. Senior safety
Devon Campbell was named second-team All-Southwest Region.
The MSU center is one of five Lone Star Conference players named to one of the Daktronics, Inc. All-America Football teams.
East Central (Okla.) senior punter Curtis Lilly and West Texas A&M sophomore linebacker Jared Brock were selected to the first-team. Both were the top vote-getter at their position. Central Oklahoma junior linebacker Will Clewis and West Texas A&M sophomore receiver Charly Martin were selected to the second-team.
National finalist and defending national champion Grand Valley State (Mich.) led all schools with six selections, all first-team. National finalist Northwest Missouri State had three selections, two first-teamers and a second-teamer.
Chadron State (Neb.) junior running back Danny Woodhead, who rushed for 2,756 yards this season, was the overall top vote-getter on the team. His name appeared on 86 percent of the ballots cast for the team.
