WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State was ahead nearly all night in every game as they defeated Texas Woman's University 3-0 in a Lone Star Conference North Division match Tuesday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum/Gerald Stockton Court.
MSU (11-8, 2-4) took the match in straight sets 30-27, 30-22 and 30-27, trailing only a handful of times to the Pioneers (17-6, 3-3) and never by more than two points.
Midwestern was able to take five and six point leads deep into each game against TWU, then withstood a furious attempt by the Pioneers to close the gap.
Freshmen
Sesley Graves and
Jessica Ransom, both of Wichita Falls, led MSU with 10 kills each, while sophomore
Shay Velasquez of Amarillo/River Road added nine kills. Junior

The Mustangs won't play again until Friday when they go to Kingsville for the LSC Crossover Tournament. MSU meets Abilene Christian at 11 a.m. in the tourney opener.
