WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University men's soccer advanced to the Southwest Soccer Conference Tournament Finals on Thursday, with a 5-1 win over Eastern New Mexico.
The Mustangs were in control from the start, receiving goals two goals in the first half, one off the foot from
Scott Leonard from 25 yards out. The other goal came from
Brandon Swartzendruber, who received a touch pass from
Obed Becerra.
In the second half, MSU and Eastern exchanged three goals in the two minutes. Midwestern scored first with a goal from
Sun Potter off a corner Kick. One minute later, the Greyhounds scored their only goal of the game, as Adam Diehl put a shot past Mustangs backup goal keeper Shaun Gill. Then 50 seconds later,
Daniel Brown scored his sixth goal, off a cross pass from
Sun Potter. Potter would help another teammate later, as he dished off a pass to
Jake Landon to cap the scoring.
On defense the Mustangs aloud only five total shots to the Greyhounds, compared to the 26 shot by the MSU offense.
Midwestern will take on West Texas A&M Saturday at 12 p.m., in the championship game of the SSC tournament.
