MSU men win SSC Co-Championship with 2-0 win

AUSTIN --  The 22nd ranked Midwestern State University men's soccer team won a share of the Southwest Soccer Conference championship Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over St. Edward's University.

MSU (13-3-2, 11-1-2) scored a goal in each half to close the regular season over the same team they opened the season against, St. Ed's (7-12-1, 6-8-0).

MSU didn't take long get on the board.  In the game's ninth minute, Brandon Swartzendruber blasted an unassisted shot past SEU keeper Scotty McNabb for a 1-0 advantage.

In the 70th minute Mark McGlinchey was able to turn the trick with a goal past another SEU keeper Chris Sanders.

The MSU defense was outstanding, as MSU's Raul Herrera recorded his second shutout of the season facing only five shots with one save.

MSU fired 16 shots at the combined St. Ed's goalkeepers.  McNabb tallied five saves in the first half and Sanders three saves in the second half.

Midwestern, tied with Incarnate Word for the SSC title, closes the regular season.  MSU and UIW tied twice this season, 2-2 in San Antonio and 0-0 in Wichita Falls.  The teams await the NCAA selection process to see who will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament.
