ISLAMORADA, Fla. – The Midwestern State University women took ninth ranked Emporia State University to overtime when senior
LaTia Banks nailed a three at the buzzer, but it wasn't enough as MSU fell 80-73 to Emporia State in the Holiday Isle Classic Monday night.
MSU (2-2) held a one-point halftime lead on ESU (7-0), but fell behind in the second half.
Midwestern was paced by the play of senior
Angie Faurot who scored 24 points to lead all scorers.
Kelly Cleavinger added 17 points and
Katherine Maples 12. Sonya Courtney led MSU with 10 rebounds.
Emporia got 19 points from Michelle Stueve, with Denisa Svarova added 15 points and led the game with 13 rebounds.
MSU moves to the consolation game of the tournament Tuesday night at 4 p.m. Central against Nova Southeastern (Fla.) who fell 72-53 to fourth-ranked Shaw (N.C.). ESU meets Shaw in the championship contest.
