Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

MSU outscores Northeastern State 8-5

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State University women's soccer team had only scored 13 goals in 12 games entering Wednesday's Lone Star Conference game with Northeastern State.  They added more than half of that in game 13 as the MSU women never trailed in beating Northeastern 8-5.

After starting the season 1-4-1, MSU evened it's overall record to 6-6-1 with the victory and jumps to third in the LSC with a 4-2-0 record.  Northeastern fell to 6-9-1 overall, 2-5-1 in the LSC.

The eight goals scored by MSU are the most since beating Texas-Permian Basin 12-0 on Oct. 3, 2001.  The five goals allowed by the Lady Indians are the most since losing to Incarnate Word 5-0 on Sept. 29, 2000.

The 13 goals set a Midwestern State record for the most goals between two teams in a single game, beating the 12 set in the UTPB contest in 2001.

Midwestern State didn't take long to get on the scoreboard first.  Freshman Megan Bibilone got a breakaway through ball from Kelly Tanner and Melissa Brown and toe poked it past NSU goal keeper Chelsey Hill in the sixth minute of the contest.  It was the earliest goal of the season for MSU.

Just eight minutes later, Bibilone got her second with assists from Lauren Sierra and Brittany Burney to go up 2-zip.

MSU hit the cords again against Hill at the 18:01 mark, as Melissa Brown got a give-and-go from Burney to put the Lady Indians up 3-0 and send Hill to the bench.

Northeastern came back with a penalty kick goal in the 28th minute by Robin Sutherland, and after the half, needed just 1:38 to make the contest 3-2 when Ashley Badeen scored for the Lady Reds.

But two minutes later, Bibilone collected the hat trick on poke in and MSU was never challenged again.

Senior Megan Dodson collected her first points of the season in the second half with a pair of goals and an assist, while Lauren Sierra scored a goal with an assist and Sabrina Periman added a goal.  Assists were recorded by Sam Orer, Blair Maxwell, Abbey Amburn and Kelli Calhoun.

True freshman Heather Primavera was in goal for MSU, replacing senior Elli O'Dwyer who suffered an injury in practice earlier in the week.  Primavera recorded four saves for MSU, while facing 18 shots with the five goals allowed.

Hill allowed three goals on four shots without a save for NSU in 18 minutes, while replacement Sarah Spencer notched 10 saves on 23 shots and allowed five goals.

The Lady Indians close the home portion of the season on Friday when they host East Central (Okla.) in a 5 p.m. game, part of a double-header with the MSU men who face St. Mary's at 7:30 at the MSU Soccer Field.
