Memorial Stadium
Once regarded as the bastion of football facilities in the gridiron crazed State of Texas, Memorial Stadium remains as one of the finest venues in the Lone Star Conference.
Completed in 1970 by the Wichita Falls Independent School District, Memorial Stadium sported the first artificial turf high school surface and has also served as the home for all WFISD home gridiron events for more than 50 years. It has served as the home of Midwestern State football since the university resumed the sport in 1988.
The venue served as the host to 10 Pioneer Bowls which featured three NCAA Division I-AA national championship contests (1978, 1981, 1982) and a pair of NCAA Division II title tilts in 1976 and 1977.
Â
Memorial Stadium, which seats more than 14,500 spectators, has also plays host to the annual Oil Bowl Classic all star game which once featured top senior prep prospects.
The field and drainage system was replaced in 2012 with Desso iDNA artificial turf laid down as the new surface. New goal posts, adjustable to both collegiate and high school play were added as well.
Along with the new turf in 2012 came a new scoreboard that included a 14' x 36' video board to enhance the live game experience.
Â
The stadium is equipped with a two-story press box with booths for both broadcast and print media as well as space for visiting coaches and dignitaries.
Â
Ticket offices are located on the east and west sides of the stadium with the media and player will call windows located on the west (home) side and the visitor will call window on the east side.
Â
Memorial Stadium is located on the southwest edge of Wichita Falls near the intersection of Southwest Pkwy. (Texas Highway 369) and Barnett Road.
