Shawn Byrnes

Shawn Byrnes was a four-year letter winner at Texas Tech and appeared in 33 games for the Red Raiders with 21 starts as an offensive lineman. Byrnes appeared in four bowl games, and Texas Tech was 37-15 during his collegiate career. He signed as a free agent to play center in the United Football League for the Las Vegas Locomotives.

Byrnes spent the last two years as the offensive line coach at Northern Colorado. Byrnes coordinated all aspects of the offensive line and worked on the offensive game plan for the Bears. Byrnes coached Grant Stephens, a second-team All-Big Sky selection in 2021, and Brady Odom, who was named third-team All-Big Sky in 2022.

From 2018-2020, Byrnes was the offensive line coach at Ottawa University Arizona in Surprise, Arizona. In 2018, the Spirit appeared in the Victory Bowl and finished the season 7-4. Tristan Shehorn and Sam Laga were first team All-Sooner selections in 2018. Joseph Love was tabbed as a second team All-Sooner performer.

The following season, OUAZ reached the NAIA playoffs with a record of 9-2. Shehorn was named an All-American and was once again first team All-Sooner along with Laga. Elijah Boyd-Volakis was a second-team All-Sooner honoree.

From 2016-18 Byrnes prepared NFL draft prospects for the NFL Combine, focusing on fundamentals, terminology, drills and interview preparation while working with Exos NFL Combine Preparation. Byrnes assisted legendary NFL offensive line coach Alex Gibbs.

Byrnes produced numerous All-State and All-Conference offensive linemen at Scottsdale Christian Academy from 2015-17.

He was the offensive line coach on the inaugural coaching staff at Arizona Christian — an NAIA program — in 2014.

Byrnes began his coaching career with a three-year stint at his alma mater —Paradise Valley High School in Phoenix. He served as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

After receiving his Bachelors of Science degree at Texas Tech in 2009, Byrnes went on to earn a Masters of Arts in Leadership at Ottawa University Arizona in 2020.
