WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State closes out the MSU Soccer Fall Festival with a match against Southern Nazarene on Saturday night at Stang Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Mustangs improved their record to 2-0-2 on Thursday night as they won a bruising battle in their home opener against Fort Hays State 3-1 at Stang Park.
Mere Escobar scored twice for the Mustangs and moved into a tie for fourth place on MSU's all-time goal scoring list, matching Alex Alkhazshvilly (1975-78) and Britt Harder (1989-91) with 48 goals. The senior from Austin, Texas, leads the conference and is 15th in the nation with four goals this season.
Escobar leads the conference and is 15th in the nation with 10 points this season.
Liam Pritchard assisted on the first goal in the 37th minute on Thursday night. The senior from England is leading the LSC and is second in the nation with four assists this season. Three of the four assists have come on Escobar goals for the Mustangs.
Samuele Muroni scored his second goal of the year to put MSU in front of Fort Hays State. Skyer Krchnak set up Muroni for the glancing header in the 84th minute.

Midwestern State is meeting the Crimson Storm for the 28th time in the history of the program. The Stangs have won the last seven encounters since suffering a 4-3 loss at Bethany, Oklahoma, in 1996. MSU leads the all-time series, 23-4-0, including a 5-1 victory last season at Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
Escobar scored twice in the win at Southern Nazarene, including a goal from 25 yards out. Escobar also scored on a penalty kick in the 39th minute.
Jecsi Orellana-Espinal and
Anthony Perea each scored for the Mustangs, and Pritchard assisted on a
Jack Larkin goal in the 29th minute.
Southern Nazarene is unbeaten in four matches since a season-opening loss to McKendree and improved to 3-1-1 with a 4-0 win in the opening match of the MSU Soccer Fall Festival.
Cesar Solis and Unaiz Shajani each scored twice in the victory. Solis has three goals and two assists this season, and he leads the team with eight points. Shajani also has three goals for the Crirmson Storm this season.
Matthew Spiegel faced eight shots against Eastern New Mexico, but the Greyhounds failed to put a single strike on frame as the sophomore goalkeeper from Jenks, Oklahoma, posted a clean sheet.
Andrej Krivokapic is 2-1-1 in his four starts for Southern Nazarene with a 1.14 goals against average and a .667 save percentage.
Midwestern State completes its three-match homestand with a non-conference clash against West Texas A&M on Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
