Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State conceded a goal in the 11th minute and that was all West Texas A&M needed to spoil Senior Day at Stang Park as the Buffaloes defeated the Mustangs in the regular season finale, 1-0.
Midwestern State is 10-5-2 overall with a 4-5-0 record in the conference, which is good for 12 points and a sixth-place finish in the LSC standings.
West Texas A&M improved to 6-3-8 overall and had 16 conference points with a 4-1-4 record. WTÂ finished third in the LSC.
The Buffaloes will now host Midwestern for a quarterfinal match in the 2022 LSC Men's Soccer Championship. The sides will meet for the third time this season. WT earned a 1-1 draw with MSU in their non-conference clash at The Pitch in Canyon on Sept. 15.
Kickoff on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
After nine seniors were recognized for their contributions to Midwestern State soccer, the Mustangs took to the pitch hoping to upend their rivals and possibly host a quarterfinal match — but the Buffaloes jumped in front early.
Ben Siri kept possession on the left side in the attacking third despite tight marking and lifted a ball over the left shoulder of Anthony Perea as he entered the box. Perea was able to center the ball for Kenny Brown just outside the 6-yard box. Brown deflected the ball to Rotem Weiss, whose right-footed blast went past a diving MSU goalkeeper,
Adam Braman, and inside the left post for an early goal.
The sophomore Braman, making his 13th start of the season, had seven saves in the game for the Mustangs but suffered the loss as his record fell to 7-5-1.
Weiss scored his first goal of the season for the Buffaloes, and West Texas A&M was able to withstand the subsequent pressure from Midwestern State.
The Mustangs outshot WT, 15-11, but only managed to get four shots on goal, and nothing went past goalkeeper Asaf Kristal, who recorded his fifth shutout in 10Â starts this season, improving to 4-1-5 for the Buffaloes.
In the 62nd minute,
Mere Escobar delivered a free kick for MSU, and Kristal left a rebound in front of the goal, but junior forwardÂ
Sulahmana Bah sent his shot over the goal.
Bah appeared to have the equalizer in the 70th minute, but an offside call nullified the goal.
Jack Larkin missed a chance in the 83rd minute as the senior midfielder sent a shot wide.
Midwestern State is winless in its last four meetings with West Texas A&M and fell to 5-2-0 at home this season.
