MSU falls by two second half goals against Colorado School of Mines

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In their second match against a ranked opponent, Midwestern State held on through the first half of play and created a lot of chances, but could not keep the Orediggers at bay. The Mustangs lost 0-2 to No. 21 Colorado School of Mines in the Friday night match up at Stang Park.

MSU outshot the Mines seven to three in the first period. Lexi Beck and Valentina Carvajal tested the Orediggers' keeper, Sierra Roth, within 15 minutes of the first whistle. Beck tallied two shots in her 82 minutes with one landing on target.

Taylor Camp was also put to the test by Emma Peterson and Eliot Edwards. Peterson had three shots in 69 minutes while Edwards collected two in 46. Isabella Cruz knocked in two of her three total shots to lead the Mustangs. Hayden Zuniga also took a couple of tries before half in her first appearance for Midwestern State.

Camp notched three saves to keep the score even going into half time while Roth registered four for Colorado School of Mines.

Within ten minutes of opening the second period, the Orediggers found the back of the net. Following a free kick in the Mustangs' defensive third, AK Ford knocked in a bouncing ball through traffic to put the visitors up one.

Emilia Nunez and Senna Garcia both tried their hand at goal to find the equalizer, but came up empty.

Tragedy struck again in the 80th minute when Lauren Clingman found the back of the net to put the Mines up by two. Landry Corbett took the long throw for the Orediggers, found a teammate's head and the ball fell to Clingman's feet at the top of the six yard box.

The Mustangs could not find the two goals needed to push overtime and the final whistle blew. Camp concluded her 13th career start fot MSU with five saves while Roth recorded four. MSU ended the match with 14 shots and four landing on target while the Orediggers had eleven tries and seven on goal.

Midwestern State returns to Stang Park again on Sunday, Sept. 12, to take on their second Colorado team of the weekend. Regis comes to Wichita Falls, Texas, to battle the Mustangs at noon.
