TYLER, Texas – Midwestern State brought its dominance back to the field in a 4-0 rout of UT Tyler on Tuesday night. Three players put their name on the scoresheet for the Mustangs to help the team move to 3-1 for the season and 2-1 in conference play.
The fun started only six minutes into the game when
Toi Yamaoka put in the first score for MSU. This is the forward's first goal as a Mustang and
Tristian Adams recorded his second assist of the year. His first came against Hardin-Simmons.
A little more than a minute later, Midwestern State struck again, this time by
Trevor Amann. The senior was assisted by
Carlos Flores. This is Flores' third assist of the year and 21st for his career at MSU.
Amann struck again in the tenth minute to put the Mustangs up 3-0. This is the senior's sixth goal of the season and third two-goal game. He recorded a brace against Hardin-Simons and Lubbock Christian.
The rest of the half was quiet for both teams. Midwestern State ended with nine shots and six corners. Keeper,
Marc-Antoine Huzen did not make any saves for the full 45 minutes. On the other side, UT Tyler goalie Mathias Erikson made four saves. His team garnered five shots and two corners for the first half.
The second half started with two bookings for the Mustangs and a corner kick in the 57th minute. Nicolas Almendano swapped places with Mathias in goal at 58:00. Two minutes later, MSU put another one in.
This time it was
Yogi Vargas with
Juan Galindo for the helper. This is Vargas' second of the season and 15th career goal. Galindo records his first point at Midwestern State in the assist.
UT Tyler forced Huzen to two saves on four shots in the remaining time but was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. The two keepers for the Patriots recorded seven saves collectively. The team also had two more corner kicks.
MSU put up seven shots in the second for 16 total. The team also put in 12 total corner kicks, the most thus far from the four games.
The Mustangs head back to Wichita Falls for another Lone Star Conference match, this time against Texas A&M International. The Saturday, March 13, game will kick off at 5:30 p.m. in Stang Park. Online tickets are available and the capacity is limited to 50 percent.
