Alyssa Estrada-Hamby block party shuts out Oklahoma Christian

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – They say revenge is a dish best served cold and Midwestern State was stone cold in the 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21) route of Oklahoma Christian in Wednesday's game at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs even the series and up their record to 4-3 for the season.

MSU's offensive power and capitalization on the Eagle's 22 errors were keys to the victory. The start of the match was even tempo until Midwestern State broke through with a 9-1 run. Sophomore Kaitlynn Stoker registered three kills in the run. The outside hitter totaled seven kills and two blocks, which counted as her season-high for barricades.

Middle Blocker Alyssa Estrada-Hamby recorded four of her season-high block assists during the first set run and propelled the team to the 25-17 win. The freshman had seven kills for the night with a .636 kill percent and .545 hitting percent.

The second set was barren of long runs by either team, but perseverance was instrumental for the Mustangs. Junior Taylor Anderson topped MSU's offense with five kills and eight total. Setter Autumn Roach had eight assists in the second, coupled with 20 total. This led both team for the match and her four aces are a season-high for the freshman.

A kill by Stoker nailed the end of the middle set with a 25-19 score. Freshman Lauryn Bourne filed one of her season-high two kills in the third and was good for six rockets in the game. Set three proved to be a test for Midwestern State as Oklahoma Christian went down swinging.

After being down by five, the Eagles pushed to a tie at 17s. Middle blocker Lissette Lefforge, who leads the team in kills, tallied two of her five kills in the last set. Kaitlyn Masseth assisted one of Lefforge's two kills and was good for 11 helpers and 8 digs in the night.

On the defensive end, Jaycie Fuller was the top passer for the Mustangs with 11 total. This pushed OC's rally down and upped the home squad to a 25-21 victory.

Midwestern State will participate in the Angelo State Invitational starting on Friday, Feb. 26, against Western New Mexico at 3 p.m. in San Angelo, Texas. Their other two matches for the tournament are on Saturday, Feb. 27, up against Texas A&M International and Angelo State.
