CANYON, Texas – After clinching the Lone Star Conference title on Wednesday, No. 6 Midwestern State looks to claim another feat against No. 22 West Texas A&M. If the Mustangs pull out a win against the Buffs, they will be the only team to ever record a perfect LSC regular season record without a loss. The big game kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 6, at The Pitch.
 

FIVE STORY LINES

1 |  Trevor Amann posted the LSC's only hat-trick of the season in the team's 5-1 defeat of UT Permian Basin (11/03) to gain a conference best 15 goals. The senior posted a 0.938 average in 16 matches. Amann's 35 points and 2.19 average also tops the conference. In addition, the forward leads with 77 shots (4.81 per game) and 34 shots on goal (2.13 per game) for the Lone Star Conference. His shots rank seventh with Jackie Anderson and Brandon Swartzendruber for MSU's most in a season. Amann's 27 career goals sits tied for 16thh while career shots puts him seventh in all-time records. His 70 shots on goal are in a seventh tie rank with Josh Hilll, VcMor Eligwe and Alber Rodriguez. Amann is tied with fellow Mustang Mere Escobar with four game-winning goals to top the LSC. For his career, the Westminster, Colo., native accumulated 27 goals and 11 assists for 65 points. In addition, he notched six game-winners in 2,967 minutes.
 
2 |  Carlos Flores notched a goal and assist in the team's 5-1 rout of UT Permian Basin (11/03). The senior completed six goals and seven assists for 19 points in his final season at Midwestern State. He, along with Julian Barajas, lead the Lone Star Conference in assists and average helpers (0.438). Flores' points puts him at fourth in the conference and 1.19 average ends at fifth. The midfielder landed a season-high five points against Northeastern State (9/09) on two goals and one assist. His average of 0.375 goals ranks eighth in the LSC. In total, he launched 19 shots and put eight on frame in 16 matches. In 1,366 minutes, Flores has two game-winners against Westminster (9/16) and UTPB.
 
3 |  Mere Escobar's 25 points lands second on the team and third in the conference. His ten total goals earns third for the LSC and while his five helpers sits eighth in the Lone Star. The midfielder possesses a conference third-highest 1.38 shots on goal average and third-best 2.81 shots per game. Escobar's most recent game-winning goal of his four total came at Dallas Baptist (10/30) in his second brace of the season. He attempted 45 shots with 22 finding the goal frame in 1,164 minutes. Escobar claimed 15 starts in 16 appearances this season while making 18 starts in 27 game for his career. In two years, he notched 15 goals, five assists and 35 points. The Austin, Texas native saw 66 shots with 38 on goal and five game-clinchers in 1,599 minutes.
 
4 |  As mentioned above, if the Mustangs take a win over No. 22 West Texas on Saturday, Nov. 6, the team will have reached a feat of no other LSC team by completing a perfect conference regular season record. Midwestern State would have not taken a loss in eight of the conference matches. Thus far, MSU has collected a 14-1 season, gaining a 0.933 winning percent. This is the best winning percentage for Midwestern State since the 2017 season when the team completed the 18-match regular season without a loss for a 0.935 percentage. That year, the team went 18-0-2 in the regular season with a 12-0-2 record in the Heartland Conference. MSU added two more wins in their run to the Heartland Conference Championship where they lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win over St. Edward's.
 
5 |   Midwestern State kept their No. 1 spot in the second Super Region Four Rankings released earlier in the week by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee. As the No. 1 seed, Midwestern State is in position to serve as the home site through the regional quarterfinals. The full rankings are below.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL MEACHUM
is in the midst of his fourth season as head coach at Midwestern State and his 10th overall in Wichita Falls. He served the first seven years as top assistant for Doug Elder. During that time, Meachum helped the Mustangs reach two NCAA Division II South Central Region finals and to the national quarterfinals. Meachum boasts a 53-10-4 record (.821) since taking the reins of the program prior to the 2018 season. He has led the Mustangs to the 2018 Heartland Conference title, the 2019 Lone Star Conference postseason tournament crown and to two NCAA Division II postseason appearances in 2018 and 2019. Prior to MSU, Meachum served as an assistant at NAIA Bethany College (Kan.) and Hastings (Neb.), at Division I Oral Roberts and Division II Northeastern State.

 
SERIES WITH THE BUFFS

 In 46 years, Midwestern State and West Texas A&M have a rich rival history. MSU owns an advantage in the series at 35-21-4. When playing on the road, the Mustangs are 14-11-2 at WT. The Lone Star Conference battle between the two teams is tight with MSU posting 15-14-3. In the last two meetings, the Buffs took home victories. The previous match-up took place early in the 2021 season with the opposition walking away with a tough 3-4 win. James Doyle and Toi Yamaoka were the goal scorers.
