No. 6 Mustangs fall at No. 21 West Texas A&M, 3-2

CANYON, Texas -- Tristian Adam's first career goal at Midwestern State could not have come at a better time as the redshirt sophomore punched the 2-2 equalizer against West Texas. Unfortunately, the Buffs found their third goal of the match for a 3-2 victory at The Pitch. In the Lone Star Conference regular season finale, the Mustangs find their first conference loss to sit at a 7-1 LSC record and go 15-2 overall.

Who else would start the match with a goal than MSU's Trevor Amann. The forward's 16th goal on the season started from Marc-Antoine Huzen's long kick downfield to Julian Barajas. Barajas controlled the bouncing ball, shook off one defender, and put in a low cross across WT's box. Amann stood alone at in the six yard box and had an easy tap in versus Tom Miles at 25:04.

The senior posted the only goal of the first half while tallying three of Midwestern State's four attempts at goal. WT controlled five shots forcing Huzen to one save in the first 45 minutes. Miles also completed a stop for the home side.

West Texas opened the second period with an early goal by Rotem Weiss who put away his fifth notch of the season. Chris Palomino dragged both Mustang center backs to the side and flicked the ball back to Weiss for the equalizer. Palmino then bought his own tally at 71:02 off Ben Siri's slip in assist.

Adam's tying goal was a big relief for the visiting side as Barajas' dumped in a dangerous ball at the six for Adams to slide into the net. With two helpers for the night, Barajas registered a team-best nine assists.

The Buffs responded less than ten minutes late with what would be Siri's game-winner. In the final seven minutes, Amann tallied the only shot before the final whistle blew. The senior led both teams with seven shots in 90 minutes. MSU totaled 15 team shots while WT put up 14 attempts. Huzen completed two saves and Miles made four stops for West Texas.

With the match standing as the final game of the LSC regular season, Midwestern State will start play in the conference championship postseason. The Mustangs clinched the No. 1 seed in their win over UT Permian Basin (11/03) and will host the semifinals and finals of the tournament. The LSC Championship schedule will release late Saturday night after the conclusion of all conference matches.
