LAREDO, Texas -- Riding a five-match win streak, No. 7 Midwestern State (11-1, 3-0 LSC) takes on Texas A&M International (5-7-1, 2-2-0 LSC) on Saturday, Oct. 23 and will look to secure their 13 year unbeaten streak against the Dustdevils. The Lone Star Conference match kicks off at 7 p.m. at Dustdevil Soccer Field.

FIVE STORY LINES

1 |  Trevor Amann leads the Mustangs with 24 points to earn second in the Lone Star Conference and tops the LSC with 1.92 points per game. The senior's ten goals sits in second rank in the conference, as does his 0.833 goals per match average. Amann tallied four game-winning goals against Missouri S&T (9/02), Rogers State (9/11), Lubbock Christian (9/29) and at Lubbock Christian (10/16) to top the Lone Star Conference. His 53 shots and 4.42 average is first in the conference while shots on goal, 21, is second. Amann collected at least one point in his last five matches and has only two games this year without any points. He leads MSU with 53 shots with 21 on target. For his career, the Westminster, Colo., native accumulated 22 goals and nine assists for 53 points. In addition, he put up 128 attempts with 57 on goal and notched six game-winners in 2,644 minutes.

2 |  Mere Escobar has had a breakout sophomore season, tallying six goals and three assists for a MSU second best 15 points. His total goals full points and both sit third and fourth in the Lone Star Conference. When broken down per game, 0.500 goals and 1.27 points gain third and fourth in the conference and top 100 in NCAA Division II. Escobar has a LSC third-highest two game-winning goals, collected against Rockhurst (9/04) and Oklahoma Christian (10/09). The midfielder took 28 shots throughout his ten starts and put 15 on frame for a 0.536 shot on goal percent. In 841 minutes, Escobar is 3-4 on penalty kicks. In the Austin, Texas, native's two years at Midwestern State, he posted 11 goals and three assists for 25 points. He adds 49 attempts with 30 on goal in 1,279 minutes on the pitch. Escobar earned three game-clinching goals in 23 total matches.

3 |  Carlos Flores continues to pace Midwestern State with six assists on the season and adds five tallies for 15 total points. His average points per game (1.33), total points and total goals earn third in the Lone Star Conference. The midfielder's six helpers and 0.500 average leads the LSC. Flores notched 15 shots with four coming against Northeastern State (9/09). Seven of the attempts landed on frame for a 0.467 shot on goal percent. In 1,020 minutes, the senior has one game winner against Westminster (9/16).

4 |  Between the posts, Marc-Antoine Huzen has 12 starts and 1,095 minutes for Midwestern State. The senior allowed 12 goals for a Lone Star Conference best 0.986 goals against average. Huzen collected 28 saves in 101 shots faced to earn a 0.700 save percent, which ranks sixth in the conference. His last ranked stat is his six shutouts to lead the LSC. The goalkeeper faced a season-high 21 shots against Oklahoma Christian (10/09) and made a season-high five saves versus Northeastern State (9/09). Huzen is 11-1 on the season and 17-2-1 in his Mustangs career. In three years, the Parisian accumulated 40 saves versus 123 shots for a 0.714 save percent. His overall goals against average records at 0.80 while he maintains 11 shutouts.

5 |  In the most recent release of the United Soccer Coaches College Rankings, Midwestern State was named No. 7 in the polls. In the first poll of the season, the Mustangs claimed the 23rd spot and quickly moved up the ranks from there. With defeats over No. 25 Northeastern State and No. 9 Rogers State, MSU were selected to No. 18 for the second poll of 2021. The team continued the climb after claiming victories against Westminster and No. 19 Simon Fraser in the MSU Classic. After dropping to No. 3 West Texas A&M (9/22), Midwestern State fell to the twelfth spot and picked up to 11 with wins over Lubbock Christian (9/29) and Oklahoma Christian (10/02). With a defeat over Oklahoma Christian in the first conference match, MSU broke the top ten of the polls for the first time this season. The Mustangs currently ride a five-match win streak after a 4-2 victory against UT Tyler.



HEAD COACH MICHAEL MEACHUM is in the midst of his fourth season as head coach at Midwestern State and his 10th overall in Wichita Falls. He served the first seven years as top assistant for Doug Elder. During that time, Meachum helped the Mustangs reach two NCAA Division II South Central Region finals and to the national quarterfinals. Meachum boasts a 49-10-4 record (.801) since taking the reins of the program prior to the 2018 season. He has led the Mustangs to the 2018 Heartland Conference title, the 2019 Lone Star Conference postseason tournament crown and to two NCAA Division II postseason appearances in 2018 and 2019. Prior to MSU, Meachum served as an assistant at NAIA Bethany College (Kan.) and Hastings (Neb.), at Division I Oral Roberts and Division II Northeastern State.

SERIES WITH THE DUSTDEVILS

In 21 matches, Midwestern State has never lost to Texas A&M International, starting in 2008. The Mustangs took a nine game-win streak from 2013 to 2017 with the Dustdevils fighting to a tie in four matches. The most recent battle took place on March 13, 2021, as part of the shortened COVID-19 season. TAMIU grabbed its fourth draw going 1-1 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Julian Barajas notched the game-tying goal in the 80th minute of play. MSU is 3-0-2 in Lone Star Conference play and 11-0-3 at home when taking on Texas A&M International.
