OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- In their last non-conference match of the 2021 season, Midwestern State (7-1) heads to Oklahoma City, Okla., to take on the Oklahoma Christian Eagles (1-3-2) on Saturday, Oct. 2. The 7 p.m. match sees MSU and OC battle it out at Eagle Soccer Field.

FIVE STORY LINES

1 |  Trevor Amann has had quite the year, tallying seven goals and three assists in eight games. He sits second in the Lone Star Conference in goals per game (0.88), points per game (2.12), total goals (7) and total points (17) to land in the top 20 of the NCAA Division II in all four categories. The forward amounted 36 shots with 16 landing on frame to lead the Mustangs offensively. His 4.50 shots per game sits second in the LSC and fith in the nation. Amann tallied two-goal matches against Missouri S&T (9/02) and Rogers State (9/11) and clutched the game-winners in both games. He also added the game-winning goal against Lubbock Christian (9/29) to earn him first in the conference and second in DII with three clinchers. On his career, the senior recorded 19 goals and eight assists for 46 points over three seasons. Amann notched 111 shots with 52 going on goal in 2,314 minutes on the field. He has five game winners to his name thus far.

2 |  Carlos Flores holds second for MSU with 13 points on the season, which is split into four goals and five assists. His helpers leads the Lone Star Conference and lands twelth in NCAA Division II while his four goals gets fourth in the conference. For points, Flores gains fourth for the LSC and is 36th for DII. The midfielder registered 13 shots with six going on-goal for a .462 shot on goal percent. In 660 minutes, Flores collected one game winning goal against Westminster (9/16). In his career, the senior has amassed 27 assists, which earns seventh in the Mustangs' all-time record book, tied with Jake Joy's record of 27 helpers from 1994-96. With his 112 career shots, Flores inks his name on the career shots record books and ties Anthony Ramirez (2001-04) and Ahmad Ihmeidan's (2004-08) attempts.

3 |  Marc-Antoine Huzen is a steady figure for Midwestern State, starting in goal in all eight matches. In 720 minutes, the senior allowed seven goals for a 0.88 goals against average. His GAA is second best in the Lone Star Conference and 21st best in NCAA Division II. Huzen collected 20 saves in 57 shots faced for a 0.741 save percent, good for fifth in the LSC. The keeper has seven wins and five shutouts on his name. Huzen registered 32 saves in his career as a Mustang in 80 shots faced. Overall, he has 11 goals against with 1 3wins and ten shutouts. 

4 | In the Mustangs' 7-1 season, the team has made quite a splash in the Lone Star Conference. With 2.75 assists per game, MSU leads the conference and sits seventh in NCAA Division II. The team also tops the LSC with 9.50 points per game, which earns them second in the NCAA. Midwestern State's 3.38 scoring offense gets third in the nation while sitting first in the Lone Star. Huzen and the Mustangs notched a 0.625 shutout percentage for first in the conference and seventh in Division II. The three other categories that MSU sits first in the conference include: total assists (22), total goals (27) and total points (76). 

5 |  In the most recent release of the United Soccer Coaches College Rankings, Midwestern State was named No. 12 in the polls. In the first poll of the season, the Mustangs claimed the 23rd spot and quickly moved up the ranks from there. With defeats over No. 25 Northeastern State and No. 9 Rogers State, MSU were selected to No. 18 for the second poll of 2021. The team continued the climb after claiming victories against Westminster and No. 19 Simon Fraser in the MSU Classic. After dropping to No. 3 West Texas A&M, Midwestern State fell to the twelth spot.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL MEACHUM is in the midst of his fourth season as head coach at Midwestern State and his 10th overall in Wichita Falls. He served the first seven years as top assistant for Doug Elder. During that time, Meachum helped the Mustangs reach two NCAA Division II South Central Region finals and to the national quarterfinals. Meachum boasts a 43-9-4 record (.804) since taking the reins of the program prior to the 2018 season. He has led the Mustangs to the 2018 Heartland Conference title, the 2019 Lone Star Conference postseason tournament crown and to two NCAA Division II postseason appearances in 2018 and 2019. Prior to MSU, Meachum served as an assistant at NAIA Bethany College (Kan.) and Hastings (Neb.), at Division I Oral Roberts and Division II Northeastern State.

SERIES WITH THE EAGLES

Starting in 1988, Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian have battled to a 16-1-1 record with the Mustangs holding the advantage. The 16 match unbeaten streak agains the Eagles came to a halt in the 2020 season when OC upset MSU 1-2 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Midwestern State holds a 6-1 record when on the road against Oklahoma Christian and look to revenge their March 6, 2021, defeat.
