CANYON, Texas – 12th seeded Midwestern State traded shots with fifth seeded West Texas A&M on Tuesday night before falling 3-0 in the Opening Round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament held at the WTAMU FieldHouse. The loss ends the season for the 8-21 Mustangs while the 22-5 Lady Buffs move on to the LSC Quarterfinals.

Neither team led by more than five points in a tight first set. MSU grabbed their only lead of the opening stanza at 3-2 following a Samantha Jordan attack error. The Lady Buffs quickly scored seven of the next nine points to seize control and would not trail for the rest of the set.

Rockelle Gholson collected four of her team-high eight kills in the first set and narrowly missed out on a double-double after collecting 13 digs.

The Lady Buffs raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second set before a Lauren Honeycutt kill sparked a 7-3 Mustangs run. The teams then traded 5-0 runs and when the dust settled, WTAMU had a one point edge, 13-12. An 8-2 Lady Buffs run, started by a Selena Batiste kill, helped the home team pull away for a second consecutive 25-21 win.

West Texas A&M completed the sweep with a 25-17 victory in the third set.

Sarah Glawe capped off her MSU career with 15 assists. Honeycutt represented MSU on the All-Tournament Team after recording seven kills and four total blocks.

Batiste was the only player to record double-digit kills, finishing with 12.
