ARLINGTON, Texas – Haevyn Risley scored nine points and collected 10 rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double in a 63-42 loss to the University of Texas at Arlington in an exhibition game on Wednesday night inside the College Park Center.
The game featured former collegiate teammates on the 1993 Texas Tech National Championship team in MSU Head Coach
Noel Johnson and UTA Head Coach Krista Gerlich. The exhibition served as an ovarian cancer awareness night. Coach Johnson was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer earlier this year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSU hung tough with Division I foe UTA in the opening quarter, pulling to within three points at 17-14 following a pair of
Mandy Withey free throws with 1:15 remaining. UTA closed the quarter on a 4-0 surge to hold a 21-14 lead after one.
UTA outscored MSU 15-2 in the second quarter to take a 36-16 lead into the break. The Mustangs finished 1-17 from the floor in the frame.
Risley starred in the third quarter, scoring five of her nine points to help MSU outscore the Lady Mavericks, 14-12.
MSU closed to within 16 at 50-34 in the fourth after a
Mica Schneider jumper, but it was the closest the Maroon and Gold would come in the final stanza.
