Cold start hinders upset bid by @WBBMSUMustangs

THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANGELO, Texas – A cold start hindered Midwestern State's chance of an upset bid against 19th-ranked Angelo State on Saturday at the Junell Center in San Angelo, 73-62. The loss drops the Mustangs to 6-11 overall and 3-7 through the first half of Lone Star Conference play. The league-leading Rambelles improve to 14-2 and 9-1 in LSC action.

ASU was powered by four players in double figures as De'Anira Moore (19), Dezirae Hampton (15), Marquita Daniels (14) and Maria Delgado (12) combined for 60 of the Rambelles 73 points.

Senior Chelcie Kizart dropped 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Saturday marked the seventh time in the last 10 games the St. Paul, Minn., native went for double-figures.

Freshman Haevyn Risley poured in a season-high 13 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. The Canadian, Texas, native went 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to complement Kizart.

The Mustangs opened the contest missing 19 of their first 21 shots to fall into an early hole, 18-7, midway through the second quarter. MSU Texas cut the gap to three with just over a minute to play in the first half on a 7-0 run before a layup by ASU's Catara Samuel moved the score to 30-25 at the half.

ASU pushed the lead to 10 early in the second half and kept the advantage near double figures through much of the remainder of the contest.

The Mustangs closed the deficit to five with 6:22 to play, down 58-53, on a layup from Mica Schneider, but a 3-for-11 shooting stretch to end the game plagued any chance of completing the upset.
