WICHITA FALLS – Angelo State's De'Anira Moore recorded a triple-double on 15 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks as the Rambelles handed Midwestern State its first home Lone Star Conference loss of the season, 81-68.
The Mustangs fall to 11-9 on the season and 8-6 in Lone Star Conference play. MSU moves to 6-1 in LSC action at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs were within striking distance at the end of the first half after
Whitney Taylor drew a foul on a three-point attempt with less than a second left, connecting on all three attempts from the line to pull MSU within five at 42-37.
Angelo State started an 8-0 run a minute into the second half and the Mustangs were never able to recover. MSU would pull within single digits at the 6:07 mark in the fourth quarter, down 68-59, but the Rambelles responded with an 11-2 run to stretch the lead back out to 17 and close out the game.
Senior guard
Kristin Rydell connected on four three-point attempts and finished with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists. Senior forward
Micheline Mercelita pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and senior guard
Whitney Taylor recorded her 148
th-career made trey, moving within seven of the all-time school record.
Aside from Moore's triple-double, Marquita Daniels scored 29 points for ASU, going 10-of-14 from the field and 6-for-8 from deep. Dezirae Hampton added a double-double for ASU, going for 14 points and 10 rebounds.
NOTES
- Midwestern State dropped its first home Lone Star Conference game of the year, falling to 8-3 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in 2017-18.
- The Mustangs shot 39.1 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from long range, but were unable to slow down Angelo State defensively, allowing ASU to shoot 50.0 percent from the floor and 47.4 percent from deep.
- The 81 points allowed were the second-most by the Mustangs this season, behind the 86 surrendered at Tarleton State on Jan. 27.
- The 50.0 percent shooting by ASU was the second-most given up by MSU. Lubbock Christian previously shot 51.0 percent on Nov. 25.
- MSU won the rebounding battle 38-37, but converted 15 offensive rebounds into only six second chance points.
- The Maroon and Gold were rejected 11 times on the afternoon with 10 coming from De'Anira Moore.
- Senior guard
Kristin Rydell knocked down four three pointers marking the second time this season the Hutto native has hit four triples in a game. She previously accomplished the feat at Tarleton State on Jan. 27. She finished with a season-high 19 points and three steals.
- Senior forward
Micheline Mercelita grabbed 15 rebounds for the second-time this season. She's gone for at least 15 boards in three of the last five outings.
- Sophomore guard
Courtney Kerr racked up a season-high eight points on 60 percent shooting. The Paradise native came up with a pair of steals defensively.

Midwestern State is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 8 against UT Permian Basin at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
