@MWSU_MBB falls to eighth-ranked Buffs

THE RUNDOWN
CANYON, Texas – Eighth-ranked West Texas A&M shot 52.3 percent from the floor and got a 29-point, 10 rebound performance from Ryan Quaid to move past Midwestern State, 93-70, on Saturday afternoon at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
West Texas A&M improves to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play while the Mustangs fall to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the LSC.
 
Quaid scored 23 of his 29 points in the first half to get the Buffs out to a 53-30 lead at the intermission. The senior shot 85.7 percent from the floor on 12-of-14 shooting.
 
MSU Texas was led by junior Josh Wallace and senior JaJuan Starks with 19 and 16 points, respectively.
 
Trailing 13-12 at the 12:47 mark in the first half, WT mounted an early 18-4 run over a four-minute stretch to push the lead to double-digits and progressively expanded the advantage to close the half.
 
Leading by as many as 31 in the second half, the Mustangs trimmed the deficit to as little as 17 after the break, down 80-63 with 4:46 to play, but was unable to further close the gap in the 93-70 loss.
 
Junior forward Dorian Chatman grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Maroon and Gold.

- Midwestern State suffered its fourth-straight loss to the Buffs after winning eight of nine from 2012-2017
- MSU Texas drops its fifth-straight after a 3-1 start to the season
- The Buffs outscored the Mustangs 46-26 in the paint
- The Mustangs recorded a season-low nine assists on 23 made field goals
- Junior guard Josh Wallace led the Mustangs with 19 points
- Senior guard JaJuan Starks scored in double-figures for the sixth time this season, dropping 16
- Freshman guard Terrell Wilson set a new season-high with 13 points
