WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's top four hitters set season highs to help the Mustangs snap a long drought with a solid 25-21, 27-29, 25-18, 25-20 win over Cameron Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
MSU Texas hit a season-best .208 as a team to put an end to a 13-match slide with their first Lone Star Conference win of the season.
Freshman
Lauren Honeycutt topped a the hit parade putting down a season-high 13 kills on 26 swings with three errors to also close with a campaign best .385 attack percentage, but she had plenty of help on the attack.
Freshman
Taylor Anderson notched her second-straight double-digit kill effort upping her career best to 13 kills and she was equaled by junior
Erin Richburg, who also matched her season's best performance with the same 13 kills.
Sophomore
Raven Presley reached back for numerous thunderous finishes finishing the match with 12 kills and one error in 36 attacks for a .306 kill rate.
But it was
Sarah Eakin's play at the net that closed out the win as the junior from Wichita Falls teamed with Anderson for consecutive blocks to set up match point before an Aggie misfire put the finishing touches on the night.
Eakin put down seven kills of her own and was in on each of MSU Texas' six blocks.
Sophomore
Sarah Glawe closed out her third double-double of the fall going for a season-high 49 set assists with 12 digs.
Frosh
Samantha Manio led back row efforts with yet another campaign-high 19 digs, while Richburg sealed her second double-double of the season with 16 digs.
Cameron dropped its 10th straight match to fall to 2-17 and 0-9.
MATCH NOTES
- Sophomore setter
Sarah Glawe enjoyed the best statistical game of her college career going for 49 set assists and 12 digs -- both career highs.
- Junior
Sarah Eakin notched her seventh match with at least five total blocks this season finishing with six block assists.
- Freshman
Lauren Honeycutt had the team's second-best match in terms of attack percentage his season putting down 13 kills in 26 attacks with three errors for a .385 kill rate. Only
Addy Cook posted a higher percentage going for 20 kills in 41 attacks with four errors (.390) in a win over Central Oklahoma.
- Midwestern State's .208 team attack percentage was its best of the season, while the 61 total kills are also a campaign high.
- Defensively, the Mustangs also set a team high with 77 digs led by
Samantha Manio (19 digs),
Erin Richburg (16 digs),
Sarah Glawe (12 digs) and
Jaycie Fuller (10 digs).
