THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Devante Pullum and
Wanaah Bail scored career highs Thursday night at Junell Center/Stephens Arena, but it wasn't enough to halt Midwestern State's slide.
Angelo State connected on 12 3-pointers and shot 58.5 percent from the field to pull away for a 94-82 Lone Star Conference sending the Mustangs to their fifth straight loss.
MSU (2-8, 0-3 LSC) takes a break for finals before heading to Las Vegas to compete in the Rollins Classic. The Mustangs take on Rollins (Fla.) on Monday, Dec. 18th before battling Southern Indiana the next day.
Pullum slashed to the basket finishing 9-of-12 from the field while hitting a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 26 points and six assists, while Bail hit all five of his shots from the field including a triple of his own to notch 18 points and grab five rebounds.
But Angelo State got red hot midway through the first half hitting five consecutive 3-pointers -- all from different players -- as Daron Mims, Will Adler, James Kirksey, Ja'Michael Brown and Antonio Singleton hit triples in succession to push a one-point ASU edge to 32-21 lead with 7:33 to play in the first half.
Yet another player -- Kiair Crouch -- bookended a 10-0 run with two more triples to give the Rams their largest lead of the game at 47-27 with 2:04 to play in the first half.
Midwestern State scored the final eight points of the first half and pull within six points on multiple occasions in the second half, but couldn't get any closer.
Brown, a transfer from North Texas, led all scorers with 25 points to lead Angelo State which snapped a two-game slide to improve to 7-2 and 1-1.
