THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A header goal by Northeastern State's Trevor Reed in the 88th minute handed No. 9 Midwestern State its first loss of the 2016 season in a 1-0 decision Monday evening at MSU Soccer Field.

Northeastern State (2-3-0) broke a scoreless contest with 2:37 left to play in regulation as a free kick from 35 yards out for Joseph Garcia found Reed on the left side of the box before sending a header past goalkeeper Noah Fazekas for a 1-0 lead.

Midwestern State (2-1-1) controlled the possession a majority of the contest, creating a handful of good opportunities at the net. The Mustangs outshot the RiverHawks 12-2 in the opening period with Flavio Guzman's strike 35 seconds into the game serving as the lone shot on goal of the half for either team.

The Mustangs placed three shots on goal in the second period, all coming in the final 20 minutes of play.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"It was bad finishing for us. We had 22 shots; we either hit the keeper, hit them over or had them blocked by the defenders. We did some good things offensively, we just have to score goals and finish better. We need to defend better on set pieces. They came ready to play and they never let up. They packed it in and counterattacked which creates a lot of problems. It's unfortunate but there's a lot of soccer to play." – Head coach Doug Elder
