SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 10 Angelo State hit .316 behind Mallory Blauser's 14 kills to deny Midwestern State its first-ever Lone Star Conference Tournament win Thursday evening with a 3-0 victory in the LSC quarterfinals inside Stephens Arena.
In the opening set, a pair of Blauser kills helped Angelo State (29-3) double its lead on the Mustangs with a four-point cushion at 11-7. The Rambelles began to pull away in the latter half of the frame with Blauser recording three of her seven first set kills in the final four points to help ASU take a 25-16 victory to begin the match.
After being limited to just five kills in the first set, Midwestern State (12-21) was led by
Aerielle Edwards' six kills in the second frame. The Rambelles distanced themselves early with a 7-3 run to begin the set before a 3-0 run with kills for Edwards and
Addison Semer brought the Mustangs within a pair at 10-8. Trailing by four, Midwestern mounted another small run to come within one at 12-11. However, ASU slowly stretched its lead back out before ending the frame on a 7-1 spurt for a 25-16 win.
ASU hit a match-best .351 in the final set with Brianna Sotello recording six kills in the frame. The Rambelles overcame a one-point deficit at 10-9 with a 7-1 run following four kills from Sotello to force an MSU timeout. The Mustangs pulled back within four following an ASU service error but the Rambelles closed out the set on a 7-2 run to record another 25-16 win.
