COMMERCE, Texas -- Midwestern State stranded 12 base runners over the first six innings allowing Texas A&M-Commerce to come away with a 4-2 win in the series finale Saturday afternoon at John Cain Family Field.
The Lions claimed wins in three of the four games of the series including a doubleheader sweep on Saturday to improve to 23-19 on the season and 12-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
Midwestern, which fell to 20-18 and 7-13, open a seven-game home stand Thursday night with a single game against St. Mary's (Texas). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
The Mustangs play Cameron in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday at Mustangs Park before closing the home schedule with a twin bill versus Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 21.
MSU stranded two runners in each of the first six innings and never commanding in Saturday's doubleheader against Texas A&M-Commerce as the Lions also claimed the opener 4-3 earlier Saturday afternoon.
A&M-C opened up a 2-0 lead on Kylene Hatton's two-run double to the left-field gap in the first inning.
The Mustangs scrambled back to tie the game on the strength of sophomore
Erin Knox's run-scoring infield single in the second inning before
Katelyn Vinson led off the third frame with her 14th homer of the season over the left-field fence to knot the game at 2-2.
But Monica Cherry led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a homer to left field for Texas A&M-Commerce and the Lions tacked on another on Luci Ponce's two-double to the left-field gap later in the inning to plate Tyler Oppenheim for a two-run lead.
MSU sophomore
Tayler Jerrick took the loss in the circle to fall to 5-5 on the season. The Anaheim, Calif. native allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work.

Shelby Carter with two hits each to lead the Mustangs' 10-hit attack.
