Freshman Courtney Anderson joined teammate and doubles partner Paige Boykin in shutting out their opponents as the 18th ranked Mustangs blitzed the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday in Southlake, Texas.

No. 18 Mustangs roast Javelinas 5-1 in LSC semifinals

SOUTHLAKE, Texas – The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs ran their winning streak to 12 straight as they defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 5-1 in the semifinal of the Lone Star Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at the Southlake Tennis Center.
 
Midwestern (21-3), the Lone Star Conference Champion, dropped a point in doubles to the Javelinas (3-13) but was ahead on all singles courts when play was halted.
 
Midwestern got a jump start from Courtney Anderson and Paige Boykin, who did not let their opponents get a game.  The duo beat Alexandra Carillo/Alexandra Olguin 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, then both recorded shutouts in singles.
 
Anderson beat Eleni Anastosova 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, and Boykin dropped Olguin by the same score at No. 6.
 
The Mustangs also got a doubles point from 20th ranked Kayla Casey/Taylor Coffman who ripped Marisa Dimitrovska/Marlaxi Herrera 8-6.
 
MSU ended the match with Lauren Pineda's 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against Carillo.
 
The only point Texas A&M-Kingsville could collect was at No. 2 doubles as Tabata Lua/Anastasova beat Pineda/Amy Clifton 8-6.
 
Three matches were left unfinished as Clifton led Herrera 6-1, 2-2 at No. 1, No. 33 Casey has a 6-2, 2-1 lead on Dimitrovska at No. 2 and Coffman was 4-4 with Lua at No. 3.
 
The Mustangs advance to meet Tarleton State who beat Cameron 5-2 in the other semifinal.  The match has been moved up to 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Southlake Tennis Center.
