SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Midwestern State junior
Kelley Schaefer crushed three homers Saturday afternoon and finished the four-game set against Angelo State hitting .545 with seven RBIs.

That was where the good news ended for the Mustangs as the Rambelles completed the series sweep claiming 14-13 and 11-2 victories at Mayer Field.

Midwestern (23-13, 11-5) dropped from first to third place in the Lone Star Conference standings falling two games behind Angelo State (13-3) and are now one game back of second-place West Texas A&M (12-4).

The hot-hitting 'Belles blitzed the MSU staff at a .459 hitting clip and scored runs in 14 of 18 innings over the weekend by outscoring the Mustangs, 44-18. The Mustangs allowed 39 earned runs on 45 hits and issued 17 walks in 18 1/3 innings allowing a 14.89 ERA.

Sophomore
Katelyn Vinson drilled her fifth homer of the season -- a two-run shot to left field -- to spark a four-run rally in the fifth as MSU took the lead at 8-7 when
Haley Howerton dropped a two-run triple to right field, but the Belles kept hitting.

Angelo State answered with four runs of its own in the bottom of the inning and tacked three more in the sixth to re-establish a 14-10 lead going into the seventh.

The Mustangs narrowed the margin to one run as

Angelo State took control of Game 2 by scoring a run in the first and four in the second before Schaefer belted her seventh homer of the season - a two-run blast to center field - to provide MSU's only offense.

The Rambelles erupted for six runs in the third to clinch their third run-rule win of the series.

Senior Mary Kate McKay claimed wins in three of the four games limiting the Mustangs to nine runs -- six earned -- on 14 hits with six strikeouts and six walks in 19 cumulative innings.
