LAREDO, Texas - Midwestern State just had to weather the storm and find a way to score Friday night at Dustdevil Field.
 
The fifth-ranked Mustangs found a way to do one of the two and fought Texas A&M International to a 0-0 draw.
 
"They came out ready to play and pushed a lot of kids forward," MSU coach Doug Elder said. "They played really well, knocked it around and took it to us. We had to weather the storm for a while then we turned the tide and played much better in the second half."
 
MSU breathed a sigh of relief in the opening half when TAMIU's Christian Hesselaa served a volley off of the post and had it carom right back to him before he cranked a shot wide.
 
Midwestern, who outshot the home standing Dustdevils by a 19-12 margin, pelted TAMIU goalkeeper Jesus Cisneros with 12 second half shot but the junior from Dallas kept a clean sheet with eight saves to preserve the shutout.
 
The Mustangs' best opportunity came in the 104th minute of the second overtime when junior midfielder B.A. Catney beat Cisneros but had his shot cleared off of the line.
 
"We just couldn't buy a goal," Elder said. "But our defense played pretty hard and solid. Our guys fought very hard. It's a difficult place to play and we're never happy when we don't win."
 
The Mustangs (3-0-1) take on St. Edward's Sunday in Austin. Kickoff is set for noon.
 
Texas A&M International went to 1-2-1.
