Midwestern batters Buffs for sixth-straight win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's dominant second half carried it to an 88-76 Lone Star Conference win over West Texas A&M Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The win improved the Mustangs' best winning streak since 2003-04 to six games as they improved to 10-3 on the season and to 6-1 in league play.

And - for the second straight season - MSU defeated the Lady Buffs under the dome.

It was definitely a team as four different Mustangs reached double figures led by senior guard Savannah Carver who ripped the nets for 19 points.

Paced by senior Joni Unruh's 18-point, 9-assist and 6-rebound effort, West Texas A&M battled back used a 12-0 run to take a 39-38 halftime lead and briefly held the advantage after intermission.

But the Mustangs' depth proved too much for the Lady Buffs. MSU's reserves outscored WT's bench 28-2 in the second half.

Freshman forward Andrea Carter tallied 11 of her career-high 15 points in the scond half, while Dianna Jones dominated from the floor to score 10 of her 16 points after intermission.

Sophomore forward Skyler Warrick, who left with an injury, added seven second-half points as the Mustangs pulled away for a 16-point in the game's final minute.

Senior Karissa Lang knocked down a pair of treys to finish with 10 points and four assists, while sophomore Kirsti Degelia finished a solid all-around effort with six points, seven assists and five rebounds.

The Mustangs return to action Saturday afternoon at Eastern New Mexico. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (Central Time).

West Texas A&M dropped its second straight to move to 8-6 and 6-2.
