WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Ryan Spence's third tally of the season in the 104th minute of the second overtime lifted No. 12 Midwestern State to a 1-0 win over Texas A&M International Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.

Spence raced forward on a counter attack, received a feed from senior midfielder Nathan Fitzgerald and gathered in time to slam shot just outside the 18-yard box past Dustdevil keeper Jesus Cisneros to give the Mustangs a hard-fought result.

"My hat is off to Texas A&M International," MSU coach Doug Elder said. "They worked hard and stayed organized. It was a pretty even game and we had a hard time breaking them down."

MSU's best opportunity of the night resulted only after goalkeeper Michael Wood made a sprawling save on Joan Vallejo's header off of a corner kick which appeared destined for the back of the net.

"That's what a keeper is there for," Elder said. "They can win you the game and Woody came through for us."

The Mustangs pushed the ball forward as Fitzgerald broke down the left wing and found a sprinting Spence just past midfield.

"We may have worn them down a bit," Elder said. "We were able to get forward and finish off the opportunity."

With the win, Midwestern improves to 6-1 and advances its home field unbeaten streak to 34 matches. It was just the Mustangs' second home game of the season and the first since beating Central Baptist 7-0 in its opener.

Midwestern State takes on St. Mary's (Texas) Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Texas A&M International dipped to 5-2-1.
